Her Story

A Life Poured out in Love

Leora K. Tun was born on August 12, 1932, in Naalehu, Hawaii, to Kayono and Tsuneo Koike. For 93 years she lived with extraordinary generosity; as a daughter of Hawaii, a devoted teacher, a faithful wife, loving mother, a joyful grandmother, and a spiritual mother to thousands.

"She expressed God's love through various acts of service and hospitality — and she never stopped."

Leora earned her bachelor's degree in English Education from the University of Hawaii and began her teaching career at Ka'u High School. Her passion for learning led her to Wheaton College, where she pursued a master's degree in Christian Education. It was there, through a providential church assignment, that she met Roy Tun; the Sunday School superintendent who faithfully provided rides to and from church for the Wheaton students.

Roy and Leora married on August 6, 1960, at Kalihi Union Church in Hawaii. Together they returned to Chicago, raised their family, and helped plant Faith Bible Church alongside Pastor David Woo. Leora continued her calling in the classroom, first as a substitute at Midwestern Christian Academy, then earning her special education certificate and teaching physically disabled children at Hanson Park Elementary School until her retirement in 1993.

Retirement opened a new chapter. In 2000, Leora and Roy moved to Orlando, Florida, where they discovered a ministry that would mark the final decades of their lives: welcoming Disney interns from around the world. Week after week, month after month, their home became a place of warmth, food, laughter, and the Gospel. Thousands of young internationals heard about the love of God because Leora and Roy simply showed up.

In time, Leora and Roy joined hands with a young organization that shared their exact vision — Agape Source. Their years of ministry to internationals were not only a spiritual legacy but the very heartbeat of what Agape Source was being built to do. After Roy's passing, Leora moved to Owensboro, Kentucky, to be near her daughter Lyn, where she continued to bring life and love to everyone around her until the Lord called her home on April 19, 2026.

Her Legacy at Agape Source

Where Her Heart Still Lives

Long before Agape Source had a name, Leora and Roy Tun were already living its mission. For years in Orlando, they opened their home to young internationals; many of them Disney interns far from home offering meals, friendship, and the love of Jesus. When Agape Source was founded, it was a natural extension of everything they had already been doing. They became early and beloved partners in the ministry.

Leora's investment in the lives of international students didn't end when Agape Source was formed, it multiplied. The thousands she and Roy touched helped lay the spiritual groundwork for a ministry that continues today to reach people from every nation with the Gospel and the warmth of community.

Leora and Roy embodied the very spirit of Agape Source before it ever existed. Their legacy is written in the lives of people across the globe who experienced God’s love through their open door.
